This was one of the larger members of the air fryer family we’ve tested. The body is made of plastic and comes in a sleek black color.
It has a simple digital display with digital buttons that can pre-set cooking temperature and time.
There are pre-programmed automatic cooking options to choose from such as potatoes, poultry, vegetables, various sides to your main meal and even desserts.
We preferred sitting in the driver’s seat and specifically adjusted our cooking temperature according to the various meals we wanted to try out.
- Power Plus
The cooking time is now even faster with this fryer because of its 2100-watt cooking power.
- Lose the Lurking
With the simple digital touch-screen controls, we no longer needed to lurk around the kitchen trying to figure out whether the temperature is too low or too high or trying to remember how long it’s been cooking. We just had to pre-set the cooking time and temperature and wait for the bell to announce when our meal was ready to be served.
- What’s in a Name?
You know you are getting a high-quality product when you purchase from a well-known name brand such as Phillips, so we never doubted whether the product would have top-notch results.
- Getting Guests
Finally receiving guests is no longer a logistical batch baking problem. At last, we got to have our family get-together with one of our fryers! This is a very large air fryer (with 1.2kg cooking capacity to be exact) and is one of the largest on the market today.
- Save Your Favourites
After testing out various recipes and finding out which ones we like best, we simply saved the settings and can now enjoy one of our favorite meals with the mere press of a button.
- Living Healthily Ever After
With the fryer being able to reduce oily fries by 80%, it’s easy to see how this is the healthier option. By using rapid air technology we needed little or no oil to make succulent and tasty meals.
- Teflon Troubles
The non-stick coating on the base of the cooking basket is known to flake off and get into the food that is being prepared. Ours started coming off even though we only washed it with soapy water and a paper towel. We found the healthy option of less oil, but more Teflon a bit contradicting.
- Not Perfect Timing
We found consistent timer troubles with our fryer as well as with those of friends and family.
- “Racking” Our Brains Over This Issue
Although the double layer grill rack seems like a handy solution to creating even more space, the food doesn’t cook evenly. We had to keep turning our food.
- Size Matters
Although we like the fact that this fryer allows us to cook for bigger groups of people, it should be duly noted that since this is one of the largest fryers on the market, it does take up a lot of countertop space. You need to be certain you will have a place to put it.
With the Philips XL Airfryer Avance Collection fryer we ended up having three choices when it came to cooking our preferred meal; we could cook using one of the pre-programmed cooking options, we could dictate and pre-set temperature and time ourselves or we could simply press one button after saving our favorite meal settings – we preferred the latter.
We are definitely no washing wizards, so the fact that the cooking drawer and basket are made of non-stick material and are also dishwasher safe saved us from counting dishes throughout our cooking.
We also didn’t have to hang around the kitchen, micro-managing our appliance, since it comes with a handy automatic shut-off feature.
Price & Value for Money
Philips is a big household name and with that added assurance of quality comes to a higher price tag than the no-name options.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to your wants and needs; are you looking for a large cooking capacity fryer? Do you want the various time and temperature options made available to you through this fryer? Are you looking for a trusted brand that offers quality and assurance? Do you have the countertop and storage space for this fryer? If your answer is “yes” to these questions, you might want to see purchasing this particular Philips model as more of a long-term investment than a mere kitchen appliance expense.
31.5cm wide x 30.2cm high x 42.3cm deep.
This fryer holds 1.2kg of food.
What You Can Cook
The question should rather be what can’t you cook! We tried a lot of meals in the recipe book at first, but the moment we started to feel comfortable using the fryer, we started down the road of cuisine less traveled.
We were thrilled with the results. We cooked salmon, meatballs, steak, and even spring rolls.
We also did some basic low-temperature cooking such as eggs and desserts. This is a fryer that gives you a lot of freedom when it comes to meal options – we’d just be a bit more careful when it comes to soups and stews.
We easily catered to a couple and ended up serving families of three to four, but you won’t be able to prepare meals for more than four people per batch.
This fryer is the perfect option for a large family or people who like to entertain.
It’s very simple and easy to use and is definitely a healthier option.
Although there are a few minor cons to this product, we have found that Philips is still a very trusted brand and if there were any issues, you could be assured the Philips team will help resolve/fix any issues.
With its added power, cooking is even faster and makes this gadget an absolute must-have- sidekick in the kitchen – just check that you do have the countertop space for it.
