If you are a coffee lover like me, making a cup of your favorite beverage in the mornings shouldn’t be something you dread doing. Instead, it should be more of an act of love.
For me, getting that first cup of Joe is critical to getting my day started right.
So, I would hate to have to fumble around with a clumsy coffee maker, that involves a lengthy series of steps before I can have the fuel that gets me going in the morning. That is what prompted me to compile a list of the best coffee makers for 2020.
10 of the Best Coffee Makers Reviews (2020 – 2021)
And I have decided to share my findings with you in the list below:
1. The Hamilton Beach 2-Way Brewer (49980A) Best Cheap Coffee Maker
This coffee maker gives you the option of making a singles cup coffee to enjoy by yourself like I do most of the time, or a whole pot if others in your family also enjoy the smooth, rich taste of coffee in the mornings or any time of the day for that matter.
But the feature that I like best is that it is fully programmable, so instead of me having to wait until I can shake the cobwebs off before I’m able to go through the motions of making coffee, my dark roast is ready and waiting for me when I get out of bed.
But that’s not all: It also has an automatic shut-off feature that comes in handy if you’re late for work or something and forgets about cutting it off. No more fretting and being distracted at work wondering whether or not you cut the coffee pot off.
You can choose to brew your coffee into the handy carafe that comes with it standard, or in a travel mug on those days when you want to take your favorite brew with you.
Another thing I like is that it allows me to choose the strength of my brew with its handy brew-strength selector. Even a coffee connoisseur like me likes to vary the strength of my coffee sometimes.
And lastly, it has a convenient warming plate that keeps my coffee hot for those days when I’m around the house all day and need more than one cup.
2. The Cuisinart Premium Single-Serve: Best Coffee Maker Under $100
This is exclusively a single-serve coffee maker and it is Keurig compatible.
At first glance, you might think this coffee maker is designed for single people who don’t want to waste a whole pot of coffee just to make one cup for themselves.
But that’s not necessarily the case, as companies like Keurig produce a wide variety of coffee flavors especially for use with machines like the Cuisinart.
And there are a lot of people who enjoy a variety of coffee flavors.
It comes with a 32-inch cord, so it can generally be placed anywhere on your countertop. It also comes with a huge 72 oz. water reservoir so you don’t have to worry about refilling it so often.
This coffee maker also comes with a handy drip tray to capture overflows and it is fully removable for emptying and cleaning.
I think this is a great device and one that is ideal for single people, as well as people who like a little variety in their coffee.
The Ninja coffee makes is a beautiful machine. Now I know looks aren’t everything, but I was attracted to this machine the minute I laid eyes on it.
So, if the manufacturers intended to attract customers by making it aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they succeeded.
The Ninja comes with a 50 oz., 10 cup carafe, plus a built-in frother that allows you to brew, froth, and drink your favorite coffee flavors from your favorite mug. And you don’t have to worry about coming up with new recipe ideas, the Ninja comes with its own recipe guide that has 20 different recipes ready for you to try.
The manufacturers were also thoughtful enough to build the Ninja with a maximum of 60 oz./12 cup stainless steel housing and a matching steel mesh filter for maximum filtration. I don’t know about you, but one of the worst things that can happen to a coffee for me is to have sediment seep through into my brew.
Another great feature included with this coffee maker is its Ninja Smart Scoop. This feature automatically raises the temperature of the coffee bar slightly after the first cup so that any subsequent cups will be slightly warmer than the first cup.
But, if you’re like me and like every cup piping hot, simply wait a few minutes after turning the device on before you start to brew.
I mentioned the filtering capabilities of the Ninja filter earlier, but what makes it even better is that it is permanent, so you don’t have to worry about constantly buying new filters.
This coffee maker is as functional as it is beautiful. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t note that this is a ground coffee brewer. No pods or K-cups allowed.
4. The BUNN Heat N Brew: Best 10 Cup Coffee Maker
The person who invented programmable coffee makers must’ve had me in mind, and the BUNN programmable coffee maker is just that kind of machine.
It comes equipped with a fully functional digital clock that allows you to set the time you want your coffee to start brewing so that it is ready for you when you get up in the morning.
It comes with an ample, 10-cup carafe that can be filled and hot and ready in as little as 10 minutes. So, if you set the timer about for ten minutes before the time you plan on getting out of bed, you can count on waking up to a perfect cup of coffee every morning.
The warmer plate is also automatic: It turms itself on during brewing and turns itself off two hours later. Not only does this feature protects the device, but it also saves you the worry of having to turn it off before you leave in the mornings.
And lastly, the Ninja’s carafe is shatter resistant and drip-free, delivering one of the cleanest pours of any coffee maker on the market.
All this is backed up by a 3-year, manufacturer’s warranty.
5. The Bonavita BV 1900TS: Best 8 Cups Drip Coffee Maker
Now, when it comes to the functionality you just can’t beat the Bonavita coffee maker. It comes with a one-touch brewing feature that takes the hassle out of brewing a cup of coffee, and it shuts itself off automatically.
Cleanup time is also a cinch, as the carafe lid, filter basket, and showerhead are all removable and dishwasher safe. So you’ll be able to start cleanup even before you’ve finished that last cup of coffee.
I think the manufacturers of the Bonavita must’ve had me in mind too, as they gave the Bonavita a powerful 1500 watt heater capable of maintaining brewing temperatures of 195-205 degrees F. and as someone who likes their coffee piping hot, that is right down my alley.
Oh, and this next feature is something that even I wouldn’t have thought of: The Bonavita comes with an optional pre-infusion mode that wets fresh ground coffee that facilitates degassing before brewing. This is an excellent feature if you’re among those who like to purchase their coffee freshly ground.
It also features n oversized shower head and flat bottom, which also facilitates better saturation and a more unformed extraction. This makes for a richer, smoother tasting brew. I must admit that I was not a fresh ground coffee drinker before I reviewed this coffee maker, but, if I ever make the switch, then this is the coffee maker for me.
And the carafe that comes with this coffee maker is something to behold itself. It is a thermal carafe with double-walled, stainless steel construction designed to maintain the heat of the liquid longer. Also, all plastics used in this coffee maker is BPA free.
6. Keurig K-Lite: Best Pod Single Serve Coffee Maker
This entry is the first exclusively single-serve coffee maker to make the list. I know some of you out there might’ve been wondering when I was going to get around to it, but I hadn’t forgotten about you. Like they say, “good things come to those who wait.”
Now, even though the K-Lite is branded as a single-serve coffee maker, this little devil is capable of brewing cup sizes of 4, 6, 8, and even 10 oz., plenty big enough to the appetite of the most ardent coffee lover.
And if that isn’t enough, the K-Lite is capable of satisfying the taste of coffee lovers who like their coffee strong enough to stand up and bark.
This coffee maker comes with a feature called the Strong Brew Button. Using this feature lets you adjust the boldness of your coffee to meet your strength and taste.
But that’s not all. The K-lite also has an iced coffee feature for those who just love iced coffee. A simple touch of a button lets you brew hot coffee over ice for full-flavored, yet unique iced coffee taste.
Now, I don’t mind telling you that I don’t usually drink iced coffee, but I figured if I was going to review this product I might as well give it try. And, man, let me tell you I’m really glad I did because it was delicious!
But, that’s not all. The manufacturers went a step further and equipped this machine with an on-demand hot water button.
So with this machine not only can you make a great cup of coffee with the touch of a button, but you can also instant hot water feature for making things like soups and instant oatmeal, or even hot chocolate.
Included with the K-Lite are one water filter handle and one water filter so you can get to work seeing what a great cup of coffee this machine is capable of making. It heats up fast to your coffee ready in minutes.
It also comes with a huge 75 oz. water reservoir that allows you to brew up to eight cups of delicious coffee before refiling. This saves you time and effort which would otherwise cramp your style in the mornings.
Oh, I almost forgot: The reservoir is completely removable, which makes cleaning a snap.
7. The Cuisinart DGB-900BC: Best Coffee Maker with Grinder
Okay, now, back to the full-size coffee makers. This entry is also from Cuisinart and is a fully functioning, 24/7 programmable coffee maker.
Like most coffee makers of this caliber, the DGB900 shuts itself off automatically.
But it also comes with a Brew-Pause feature that halts the process in case your plans are interrupted momentarily, and a grind off function when grinding your own fresh coffee beans.
Now, if you like what you’re hearing so far, you’re going to love the dual-wall, stainless thermal carafe that comes with it. It is capable of holding up to 12 cups of your favorite and has a cushiony handle for comfort.
But what sets this coffee maker apart from the rest is that it comes with a built-in burr automatic coffee grinder, and comes with a whopping 8 oz. bean hopper capable of holding a half-pound of coffee beans.
It also comes with a handy strength selector for adjusting the strength of those flavorful coffee beans and produces a sensational, aromatic cup of coffee.
Your GDB900 package comes with a water filter and a permanent gold-tone coffee filter that ensures that nothing gets through but the freshest coffee flavor you’ve ever tasted.
A measuring cup and instruction booklet is also included.
8. The OXO Brew: Best 9-Cup Coffee Maker
The OXO is a high-tech coffee maker that has a powerful microprocessor built right in. The microprocessor controls the brew cycle so that you get a perfectly brewed cup of SCA certified coffee every time.
It is capable of brewing 2-9 cups, so it is quite capable of servicing the whole family with one brew.
But what is probably the feature I like best about this coffee maker is that it holds the water temperature at a steady 97.6-104.7 degrees Fahrenheit for a delicious piping hot cup of coffee every time.
But you probably guessed that already, didn’t you?
It also features a rainmaker shower head that distributes the water more evenly over the coffee beans for better saturation and extraction and a more robust coffee taste.
It has a high tech digital LED readout on the front of the machine to make monitoring the status of the coffee easier.
The readout also lets you know when the freshness of the coffee is diminishing. Now, that’s something that I could really take a likening to because if there’s one thing I hate it’s a stale cup of coffee.
And better yet, all of the functions can be set from a single dial, including the number of cups you want, and set the time you want it on the 24-hour timer.
This high-tech package is topped off with a double-walled carafe that keeps your coffee nice and hot just the way you like it.
9. The Cuisinart DCC-3000: Best Rated Coffee Maker
At first glance, this coffee maker might seem a bit odd, but in a good way. The first thing that catches your eye is that it doesn’t come with a carafe.
Instead, the coffee is brewed inside the machine and dispensed into your favorite mug or container.
The built-in filter guarantees that every delicious cup is sediment-free and smooth to the taste.
This is a nice coffee maker for the price and it even comes with a complimentary supply of beverages.
10. Breville BDC450 Precision Brewer Coffee Maker with Thermal Carafe
I think this is a phenomenal machine. Its most outstanding feature is the patented Steep and Release setting, which it employs automatically.
What this means is that it holds the liquid in the upper chamber automatically when brewing a single cup, without the carafe in place.
Now, I’m not sure how it does this, but it must have some type of sensor built-in that lets the machine know when the carafe is absent.
It also has a feature called the Breville gold cup preset mode.
Under this setting, the precision brewer automatically adjusts the water and brew time to meet the standards set by the SCA. this seems like a nice feature to have, especially when you have company over.
But you know I like my coffee hot, so as soon as the company leaves, the setting goes back to where I had it.
The Breville lets you brew coffee exactly the way you like it, whether you’re brewing a couple of cups or an entire pot. And the flat bottom and cone filter baskets, which are included, of course, ensure that that’s the case every time.
Again, I think this is an excellent coffee and you can’t go wrong if you choose it.
Buyers Guide: How to Choose the Best Coffee Makers (2020 – 2021)
Although I have given you a list of what I think are the ten best coffee makers on the market, I’d be remiss if I didn’t also include a few tips on how to go about choosing the right coffee maker for you.
So, below are just a few suggestions you might use when looking for that right coffee maker:
- Convenience: As I said in the opening, you don’t want to be hassled every time you want a cup of coffee. So, look for a coffee maker that requires as little hands-on operation as possible. And, if you like the convenience of having your coffee ready and waiting for you when you get up in the morning, choose one that has a 24/7 programmable timer. Mornings are not the time to be fiddling around with a manual coffee maker.
- The type of coffee drinker you are: Remember, there is more than one type of coffee machine out there – regular coffee machines and espresso machines. And although the two different coffee drinkers rarely cross paths, there are a few hybrids out there who enjoy both. Fortunately, there are some hybrid machines available too. So, if you are among that rare breed who enjoys regular and espresso coffee, You might want to look into buying a hybrid machine. Not only will it save you money, and it will save on counter space also.
- Brewing size: Fortunately, coffee makers come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. And that includes capacity and cup sizes too. Some machines let you vary the number of cups you desire, while others are not so flexible. Still, others are just single-cup machines. The option you choose should be based on you and your family’s drinking habits. Naturally, if you live alone, you’d want to choose one of those single-serve machines. Or at least one capable of letting you choose the number of cups you desire. Just remember, such a machine may be more expensive than a single-serve device.
- Timers: If you and your family members are in the habit of drinking coffee throughout the day, make sure you shoes a coffee maker that has a thermal carafe. This will ensure that the coffee stays nice and hot the whole day. But, that won’t be much help if your coffee maker doesn’t have a timer on it. Nobody wants to be tasked with going through the hassle of making a pot of coffee themselves manually every time they want one. So, look for a machine that has a 24/7 timer – and a thermal to keep the coffee fresh and hot so that it is ready when you want it.
- Size: Now, this might not seem like its important on the face of it, but the size of the machine should be taken into consideration. Especially if you have a small kitchen and counter space is a premium. So, don’t go out and buy the biggest coffee maker simply because it appeals to you. It won’t do you much good if you can’t find anywhere to put it.
